What Happens in Vision Therapy?
Treatment begins with an evaluation by Dr. Lessmann. He designs a
therapeutic program based on the client’s needs and personality. The client
then begins a series of hour-long sessions with members of our staff.

Our therapists—all of whom are experienced, dedicated, personable,
and highly trained—draw on a broad range of techniques to improve
vision and visual thinking.

A therapy session might include exercises that develop cognition, communication, and body
awareness, as well as improve control over eye muscles. In one session, for example, a child might replicate a block pattern in reverse of the therapist’s model, walk on a balance beam while wearing prismatic lenses, and follow written directions about how to build a tower. The child might categorize shapes, play a memory game, and move to a metronome. The exercises become increasingly challenging, but to our clients, they seem like play—and that’s often true for adults as well as children!

A key component of our program is the therapeutic relationship. We help our clients to become
increasingly comfortable with tackling new challenges as their skills improve. We cultivate a positive atmosphere in the therapy sessions and ensure that each client experiences success.

We encourage our clients to complement the therapy sessions with home training. The therapist teaches the client a series of exercises that take only a few minutes a day to perform. Home training reinforces and accelerates the progress made in our office.

Is Vision Therapy Covered by Insurance?

Many plans arbitrarily exlude vision therapy while some may offer limited coverage. We will gladly file claims on your behalf.

We recommend that clients whose insurance plans do not cover vision therapy consider opening a tax-free health savings account (HSA). (For more information on these, visit www.ehealthinsureance.com or www.hsainsider.com.)
